Why the 7:1 Rule Is Wrong

The myth has been repeated for decades, but the math does not work:

• A 1-year-old dog can reproduce — a 7-year-old human cannot. Dogs mature much faster in year 1
• A 2-year-old dog is a full adult — a 14-year-old human is not
• Some small dogs live to 20 — that would be 140 in "dog years," older than any human ever
