Can OCR read handwriting?

Yes. Modern OCR engines like Tesseract can read clear handwriting, especially neat print-style writing. Cursive and messy handwriting is harder but the tool will still attempt to recognize it. For best results, write clearly on plain white paper with a dark pen.

What tips improve handwriting recognition accuracy?

Use dark ink on white/light paper. Write in print (not cursive) for highest accuracy. Take the photo in good lighting with no shadows. Keep the paper flat and the camera directly above. Crop out anything that is not the handwriting.

Is my handwriting data private?

Yes. Your image never leaves your device. All OCR processing happens locally in your browser using Tesseract.js. No data is sent to any server — ever.

Does this work with cursive handwriting?

Tesseract can recognize some cursive, but accuracy is significantly lower than with printed handwriting. For cursive, you may need to correct some words manually after extraction. The confidence score will indicate how well the text was recognized.
