On Mac
- Open Merge Video in Safari or Chrome
- Drop video files from Finder — MP4, MOV, or any format
- Reorder if needed — drag clips into the right sequence
- Click Merge — download the combined file
Why not iMovie? iMovie works but requires creating a project, importing clips to the timeline, adjusting transitions, and exporting. For a simple end-to-end join without transitions, the browser tool is faster.
On Windows
- Open Merge Video in Chrome or Edge
- Drop video files from File Explorer
- Merge and download
Windows Photos app has a very basic video editor but it is limited and Microsoft is deprecating it in favor of Clipchamp (which requires an account). The browser tool is simpler and requires nothing.
Before Merging — Prep Your Clips
- Trim first: Trim each clip to remove dead time at the beginning and end
- Match resolution: If clips are different resolutions, resize to the same dimensions first
- Fix rotation: Rotate any clips that are sideways (common with phone videos)
- Normalize audio: Adjust volume so all clips play at similar levels
After Merging
- Compress — the merged file is the sum of all clips, which can be large
- Add subtitles — add captions to the combined video
- Crop — adjust the frame if needed
