GIF is a 1987 format that was never designed for video content. An animated GIF is often 10-50x larger than the same content as an MP4 video. A 5-second GIF might be 15MB, while the equivalent MP4 is 500KB. Converting to video dramatically reduces file size with better visual quality.
The visual content stays the same — you just get a much smaller, higher-quality file.
