How to Convert Video to GIF Free — Create Animated GIFs Online
Why Convert Video to GIF?
GIFs play everywhere — Slack, Discord, email, social media, forums. They autoplay without sound and loop endlessly. Perfect for reactions, quick tutorials, product demos, and funny moments. The tradeoff: GIFs are larger than equivalent video files and limited to 256 colors.
How to Create a GIF from Video
- Open the Video to GIF tool
- Upload any video file (MP4, WebM, AVI, MOV)
- Set the start and end time for your GIF clip
- Adjust frame rate and dimensions
- Click Convert and download your GIF
Tips for Smaller GIF Files
- Keep clips short — 3-5 seconds is ideal. Every additional second adds significant file size.
- Lower the frame rate — 10-15 FPS looks smooth enough for most GIFs. 30 FPS doubles the file size for minimal visual gain.
- Reduce dimensions — 480px wide is plenty for most uses. A 1080p GIF is unnecessarily large.
- Fewer colors = smaller files — GIFs are limited to 256 colors anyway. Simple scenes compress better than complex ones.
