Yes. The tool rasterizes each page at high resolution, draws black boxes over the redacted areas, then rebuilds the PDF from those flattened images. The original text content is gone — it cannot be recovered by selecting, searching, copying, or editing the PDF. This is the gold standard approach used by legal and government redaction tools.
A black box drawn on top of a PDF is an annotation — the text underneath still exists and can be revealed by removing the annotation, copying the text, or using accessibility tools. True redaction (what this tool does) destroys the underlying content entirely. The page becomes an image with the black box baked in. There is no text underneath to recover.
