Strip All Metadata

Every photo you take with a smartphone or digital camera contains hidden data called EXIF metadata. This data can include your exact GPS coordinates, the camera and lens you used, exposure settings, timestamps, and even the software you edited with. Most people have no idea this information is embedded in every image they share. This tool lets you see exactly what's hiding in your photos — instantly, with zero uploads to any server.

What is EXIF data and what does it contain?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata automatically embedded in photos by your camera or phone. It can include the camera make and model, lens information, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, focal length, the date and time the photo was taken, GPS coordinates, the software used to edit the image, and image dimensions. Most people don't realize this data exists — it travels with the photo every time you share it online, via email, or through messaging apps.

What can GPS data in a photo reveal about me?

GPS coordinates in EXIF data pinpoint the exact location where a photo was taken — often accurate to within a few meters. This can reveal your home address, workplace, gym, school, or any place you regularly photograph. If you share photos online with GPS data intact, anyone can extract the coordinates and find those locations on a map. This is a serious privacy concern, especially for photos shared on forums, marketplaces, or dating apps that don't strip metadata.

How do I protect my privacy and remove EXIF data?

First, check what data your photos contain using this viewer. If you find GPS or other sensitive metadata, use an EXIF stripper tool to remove it before sharing. Most phones let you disable location tagging in camera settings. Social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook strip EXIF data on upload, but many other platforms — email, forums, cloud storage, and messaging apps — do not. Always strip metadata before sharing photos anywhere that doesn't automatically remove it.
