How do I calculate stock profit?

Stock profit = (Sell Price - Buy Price) x Number of Shares - Total Fees. For example, buying 100 shares at $50 and selling at $65 with $10 in fees gives you ($65 - $50) x 100 - $10 = $1,490 profit.

Does this include broker fees?

Yes. Enter your buy commission and sell commission separately. The calculator subtracts both from your profit. Many brokers now offer zero-commission trades, but you can still account for SEC fees or exchange fees.

What about taxes on stock gains?

This calculator shows pre-tax profit. In the US, short-term capital gains (held under 1 year) are taxed as ordinary income. Long-term gains (held over 1 year) are taxed at 0%, 15%, or 20% depending on your income bracket.

How is percentage return calculated?

Percentage return = (Net Profit / Total Cost) x 100. Total cost includes the purchase price of all shares plus buy-side fees. This gives you the true ROI on your invested capital.
