Word to PDF for Resumes — Free, Private, No Upload (2026)

Last updated: April 20266 min readDocument Tools

Your resume has your full name, phone number, email address, physical address, entire work history, and sometimes references. Before you paste it into a random online converter, think about who's on the other end of that server.

A browser-based converter processes your resume locally. It never leaves your device. Here's how to convert it.

Convert Your Resume to PDF (Private Method)

  1. Open the Word to PDF Converter.
  2. Drop your resume .docx in.
  3. Download the PDF.
  4. Rename the file to Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf.
  5. Preview the PDF to make sure everything looks right.

Your resume never left your computer. No server saw it. No database stored it.

Your resume stays on your device. Convert to PDF free.

Resume Formatting Tips for Clean PDF Conversion

Use a single-column layout

Single-column resumes convert most reliably across all tools. Two-column resumes (common in creative templates) can shift during conversion if the converter interprets the column structure differently. If you use a two-column layout, convert using Word itself for the most accurate result.

Stick to standard fonts

Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman, Helvetica, and Georgia are safe choices. Custom or decorative fonts may be substituted during conversion, changing the look of your resume.

Use bullet points, not text symbols

Use Word's built-in bullet list feature, not manually typed bullet characters. Built-in bullets convert correctly. Manual symbols (•, -, >) may render differently across tools.

Check margins and spacing

Standard margins (1 inch or 0.75 inch) work best. Narrow margins (0.5 inch or less) may get cut off in the PDF or when printed. Consistent spacing between sections makes the resume look clean after conversion.

Name the file professionally

After conversion, rename the PDF: Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf. Recruiters receive hundreds of files named "resume.pdf" — make yours easy to identify.
