Each POD product has a different print area. A design sized for a t-shirt won't work for a mug. Getting these wrong means your product mockups look great but the actual print is cropped, stretched, or blurry.

This guide covers the standard print dimensions for every major POD product category, with pixel requirements at 300 DPI.

T-Shirts and Tank Tops

T-shirt full front12 × 16"3600 × 4800

T-shirt full back12 × 16"3600 × 4800
Tank top front10 × 14"3000 × 4200
Racerback tank front9 × 13"2700 × 3900

Hoodies and Sweatshirts

Crewneck sweatshirt front12 × 14"3600 × 4200
Zip-up hoodie (split chest)5 × 5" each side1500 × 1500 each

Hoodies have slightly less print area than t-shirts due to the pocket, zipper seam, and hood seam taking up space on the front panel.

Hats and Headwear

ProductPrint Area300 DPI (px)Method
Snapback hat (front panel)2.5 × 1.75"750 × 525Embroidery

Hat (printed, all-over)Full panel ~11 × 6"3300 × 1800DTG/DTF

For embroidered hats, file format matters less than for DTG — most embroidery services digitize your artwork from a PNG or PDF. For printed hats, use the pixel dimensions above at 300 DPI.

Leggings and Athletic Apparel

ProductPrint Area300 DPI (px)Notes
Leggings (all-over print)Varies by size ~28 × 40"8400 × 12000Sublimation — full garment
Biker shortsFull garment6000 × 9000Sublimation
Sports braFull garment5400 × 7200Sublimation

All-over print apparel uses sublimation — the design covers the entire garment seam to seam. These require much larger files than standard DTG placement prints. Check your specific print provider's template files for exact dimensions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do different POD products need different file sizes?

Each product has a different physical print area. A hat's front panel is 4 × 2.5 inches, while a t-shirt front is 12 × 16 inches. More print area = more pixels needed to maintain 300 DPI. Same file, very different requirements.

Can I use one design file for t-shirts and hoodies?

If both use the same print area dimensions (most full-front t-shirts and hoodies are both around 12 × 14–16 inches), the same file works. But verify with the Print Size Calculator for each product individually, since some platforms have slightly different template sizes.

What format works for all POD products?

PNG with transparent background is the most universally accepted format across POD platforms. It preserves transparency for designs without backgrounds and renders sharpest on every product type.
