To find your weight in pounds from kilograms: multiply kg by 2.2046. 60 kg = 132.3 lbs. 70 kg = 154.3 lbs. 80 kg = 176.4 lbs. Use the Weight tab in the converter above for any kg to lbs conversion.

BMI uses weight and height — and it gives the same number whether you use metric (kg and meters) or imperial (lbs and inches), as long as you use the right formula for each system. Here is both.

BMI Formula — Metric and Imperial

Metric BMI formula: BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)²

Example: 70 kg, 1.70 m tall → 70 / (1.70 × 1.70) = 70 / 2.89 = 24.2

Imperial BMI formula: BMI = (weight (lbs) / height (in)²) × 703

Example: 154 lbs, 67 inches tall → (154 / (67 × 67)) × 703 = (154 / 4489) × 703 = 24.1

Both give the same result (small differences are from rounding the kg/lbs conversion). The metric formula is simpler — convert your weight to kg and height to meters first, then use the converter above for those conversions.

BMI at Different Heights — Quick Reference

BMI depends on both weight and height. "Normal" weight at 5ft 2in (157cm) spans roughly 50–65 kg (110–143 lbs). At 6ft (183cm), normal weight spans roughly 61–79 kg (135–175 lbs). The same weight reads very differently depending on height.

Use the metric formula (weight in kg, height in meters) for the cleanest calculation, converting kg to lbs for reference if you are more familiar with pounds.

Limitations of BMI

BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnostic one. It does not account for muscle mass, bone density, age, sex, or where body fat is distributed. Athletes often show as "overweight" on BMI despite low body fat. Older adults may show normal BMI despite high body fat. Use it as a starting point, not a definitive health measure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 60 kg in lbs for BMI?

60 kg = 132.3 lbs. At 5ft 5in (165cm), 60 kg gives a BMI of 22.0 — in the normal range.

What is 70 kg in lbs?

70 kg = 154.3 lbs.

How do I calculate BMI with kg and cm?

Convert height to meters (divide cm by 100). Then: BMI = kg / (height in meters)². Example: 75 kg, 175 cm → 75 / (1.75²) = 75 / 3.0625 = 24.5.

What weight is overweight for my height?

Overweight starts at BMI 25. Multiply your height in meters squared by 25 to get the kg threshold. For 1.70m: 1.70² × 25 = 72.25 kg (159 lbs). Above that is in the overweight BMI range.
