Tips for Curved Text That Actually Looks Good

• Less curve is usually better. A subtle bend looks professional. A full semicircle looks like a rubber stamp. Start with a gentle curve and increase only if the design calls for it.
• Pair with straight text. One curved line on top + one straight line below = classic badge layout. Two curved lines going the same direction usually looks odd.
• Use ALL CAPS for curved text. Uppercase letters have a uniform height, which keeps the arc consistent. Mixed-case letters create an uneven curve because of ascenders (l, t, h) and descenders (g, p, y).
• Add letter spacing. Curved text with tight spacing runs the letters into each other at the ends of the arc. Open the spacing up and each letter gets breathing room.
• Combine with an outline. An outline around curved text makes it pop against any background. This is especially true for text going over photos or busy backgrounds.
