You need text as an image, not text in a document. You need it layered over a photo without a white box around it. You need it placed on a website banner, dropped into a video thumbnail, printed on a mug, or embedded in a presentation slide. You need a PNG with a transparent background.
Most people end up opening Photoshop, creating a canvas, typing text, hiding the background layer, and exporting. That's 10 steps and a $22.99/month subscription for something that should take 15 seconds.
No layers to manage. No background to delete. No export settings to configure. The output is always a transparent PNG.
Text to transparent PNG. Takes 15 seconds.

Why a PNG and not just... text?

PNG is the sweet spot: it supports transparency, it preserves styling exactly as designed, and it works everywhere — browsers, phones, design tools, print shops, video editors. JPEG would work for styled text on a solid background, but it cannot do transparency. SVG keeps text as vectors (scalable), but not every tool supports SVG import. PNG is the universal choice.
Standard font size, any of the 17 fonts, keep effects minimal for readability on small screens. A clean sans-serif (Montserrat, Raleway) with a shadow or outline works for most social media overlays.
Use a large font size so the PNG renders with enough pixels for print quality. Bold fonts (Anton, Bebas Neue, Bangers) hold up better in print. Add a thick outline if the text will be printed on a surface with varying colors. See our T-shirt text design guide for more on print-ready text.
Type your brand name or copyright notice, reduce the opacity to 20-40%, use a light gray or white color, and download. The result is a semi-transparent text overlay you can place on photos or documents to protect your content. Position it diagonally in your photo editor for the classic watermark look.
Most video editors (DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, CapCut, iMovie) let you import PNG images as overlay layers. Create your styled text, download the transparent PNG, and drag it into your video timeline. The transparent background means only the text appears on the video — no colored box behind it.
