Strategy: Hitting Very Small Targets (Under 500KB)

When standard compression is not enough:

  1. Convert to grayscale: Removing color data can cut size by 30-50% with no readability impact for text documents
  2. Reduce image DPI: Most screen viewing needs only 72-150 DPI. A 300 DPI scan at 150 DPI is half the pixel data
  3. Split the document: If a 20-page PDF must be under 500KB, split into 4 files of 5 pages each. Each 5-page file easily fits under 500KB
  4. Remove pages you don't need: Use PDF splitter to extract only the pages required
  5. Flatten forms and annotations: Interactive form fields and comment layers add size

Step-by-Step: Compress to Your Target

  1. Upload your PDF to the compressor
  2. Start with medium quality — check the output size
  3. If still too large: increase compression / lower quality
  4. If quality is unacceptable: use the strategies above (grayscale, split, reduce DPI)
  5. Download when you hit your target
  6. Verify: open the compressed PDF and check that text is readable and images are acceptable
