Digital artists work in tools built for art — Krita, Procreate, Blender, Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop. Each has its own color picker wheel and palette system. But sometimes you are working across tools, referencing a color from outside your art software, or trying to match a specific HEX code from a design spec or client brief.

A browser-based color picker gives you a neutral reference point that works with any tool — get the code here, paste it there.

Common Cross-Tool Color Problems for Digital Artists

How to Enter a HEX Code in Krita

In Krita:

  1. Open the Advanced Color Selector (Settings > Dockers > Advanced Color Selector).
  2. At the bottom of the color selector, you will see a hex input field.
  3. Click the field and paste your six-character HEX code.
  4. Press Enter to apply.

Krita also has a Color Sliders docker (H, S, V or R, G, B sliders) where you can enter RGB values manually if you prefer that format.

How to Enter a HEX Code in Blender

In Blender (for materials or vertex colors):

  1. Open the material properties and click the color chip next to the Base Color field.
  2. In the color picker popup, click the hex input field at the bottom.
  3. Paste your six-character HEX code and press Enter.

Note: Blender uses linear color space internally. Colors you enter via HEX are in sRGB and Blender converts them automatically, so the rendered result may look slightly different from what you selected. This is normal behavior.

Procreate — Getting Colors In and Out

Procreate on iPad has a HEX input field inside its color picker:

  1. Tap the color circle in the top-right corner.
  2. Swipe to the Value view (the rightmost icon at the top of the color panel).
  3. You will see a HEX field — tap and paste your code.

To move a color from Procreate to another tool, use the same Value view to read the HEX code, then enter it into this browser tool and copy the RGB or HSL output for wherever you need it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this to match a color from a reference image?

This tool is a color wheel selector, not an image color extractor. To sample a color from a reference photo or illustration, you need a tool that reads pixel values from an uploaded image. Use this tool once you have the HEX or RGB code and want to verify it or convert between formats.

Does Clip Studio Paint accept HEX color input?

Yes. In Clip Studio Paint, open the Color Set palette or use the Color Picker window. There is a hex input field in the color picker dialog where you can paste a six-character code.

What format does Blender prefer — HEX or RGB?

Blender's color picker has a HEX input field, but it also displays float-based RGB values (0.0 to 1.0 range, not 0–255). If you need to enter precise values, HEX is the most straightforward format to use.

Is this tool free?

Yes. No account, no download, no cost.
