How does AI noise suppression work?

RNNoise uses a recurrent neural network trained on thousands of hours of speech mixed with real-world noise. It learns to distinguish human voice from background sounds and suppresses the noise in real time. The model runs as a tiny ~100KB WebAssembly binary directly in your browser, processing audio frame by frame at 48kHz. It's the same technology used by Mozilla and Xiph.org for real-time voice communication.

What types of noise can it remove?

RNNoise excels at removing stationary background noise: fan hum, air conditioning, computer buzz, traffic rumble, keyboard typing, and general room ambience. It works well on podcasts, voice recordings, meeting recordings, and voiceovers. It's less effective on music or very loud transient noises like door slams.

Is this really a free Adobe Podcast alternative?

Yes. Adobe Podcast's "Enhance Speech" feature is excellent but requires an Adobe account, has file size limits, and uploads your audio to Adobe's servers. This tool has no limits, no account, and processes everything locally. The trade-off is that RNNoise is optimized for speech — Adobe's model may handle music better. For podcasts, interviews, and voice recordings, this is a strong free alternative.

What audio formats are supported?

MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC, and WebM. Your file is decoded using the Web Audio API, processed through the noise suppression model, and exported as a WAV file. You can convert the output to MP3 using our free audio converter tool.
